i want them to, but maybe not continue the next movie from the first movie because that movie didnt necessarily leave the ending open for another movie, even if they just made a tv series would be neat or both a series and another movie...

but i dont know what the movie could be about if they came out with a second one.... i just know that the movie left me wanting more, maybe they could do a backstory on night fury or if they had to continue from the first have it start off with life after the big war with the mother dragon and then a crisis comes up again like outsiders appear on their land or have it be about toothless trying to find another one like him i just know for them to come out with a sequal is going to be hard because everyone is going to expect it to be just as good as the first

No. Look at the Shrek franchise and how far downhill that has gone with the sequels! I'd much rather them leave Dragon as is.

shrek 2 was waaaaayyy!!!! better than shreck1 and it would be the same with this movie
i_love_dragons posted over a year ago

no it wouldn't. Film companies these days are notorious at garnering as much money as they can from unnecessary sequels. Example franchises would be Shrek, Spiderman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Legally Blonde, Bring it On, as well as a multitude of others. I would much rather have one Grade A film than have that one film tarnished by a plethora of crappy sequels. Besides, Dragons concluded so well that a sequel is certainly not a necessity nor a logical option plot-wise.

freya-the-cat said:
The film 'How to Train Your Dragon' is based (very loosely) on a novel by Cressida Cowell. There is, in fact, a whole series of sequels of that book. The sequels are (in order) 'How to Be a Pirate', 'How To Speak Dragonese', 'How to Cheat A Dragon's Curse', 'How to Twist a Dragon's Tale', 'A Hero's Guide to Deadly Dragons', 'How To Ride a Dragon's Storm' and 'How To Break a Dragon's Heart'.
And there is a spin-off of the series written in Toothless' point of view called 'How to Train Your Viking'.

I would love to see those made into films. However, the book appears to have a completely different plot to the film. Even some characters are different, i.e in the book there is no Astrid, Toothless is a tiny dragon (small enough to fit in Hiccup's pocket), and Fishlegs is of similar physical build to Hiccup.

Now I hope this helps you think this over. :)

think what over not a lot of people have read the books and the movie was the best I've ever seen I personally put it above avatar and all the pixar films but that may just be me.

They will. That's what they always do in Dreamworks. But, at least DW is good with sequels. For example - Shrek and Madagascar (and they are making a sequel for Kung Fu Panda). The second ones for both of those movies were a lot better then the first ones, at least to the critics. But also for Dreamworks, they make a third one. That's the one that usually ruins the whole thing. Like Shrek. And the third Madagascar is coming out in 2012. The same thing is most likely going to happen to HTTYD. So I will be looking forward to the sequel, but not the one after that. =]

I think that if they put as much love and care into the sequel plot as they did the first one, I believe they can do it. But if they do it only for the money it won't work.

I think it ended pretty well. Maybe there should. Maybe an evil guy would come and try to capture Toothless because he is a dragon collector or something. Toothless getting a girlfriend idea might be too cliche.

I agree there to be a sequel but I don't think having an evil guy would work atleast the way you described it would just be too generic and this was a bit more of a unique movie and I want it to stay that way.

Not at all. It would ruin the whole story, and most of the times the sequels really suck. It is an awsome story just like how it is right now.
